The Snake River carves the western edge of this landscape, forming a natural boundary between Baker County, Oregon, and Washington County, Idaho. Much of the Idaho side is occupied by the high peaks of the Hitt Mountains, where the Payette National Forest encompasses landmarks such as Iron Mtn, Monroe Butte, and the oddly named Chinamans Hat. In the center of the quadrangle, the settlement of Mineral and the nearby Mineral Cem serve as points of interest for genealogists and local historians tracking the area's mining or ranching past.
