The Caribou National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape, centered on the towering spine of the Aspen Range. A critical hydrologic boundary, the Columbia River Great Basin Divide snakes through the center of the sheet, separating the waters that flow toward the Pacific from those that drain into the interior basin. The terrain is deeply incised by a series of dramatic drainages, including Wood Canyon, Trail Canyon, and the three distinct branches of North Sulphur Canyon, Middle Sulphur Canyon, and South Sulphur Canyon.
