The Ute Mountain Indian Reservation defines the landscape of this southwestern Colorado region, where the high desert is carved by a complex network of ephemeral drainage systems. These arroyos, including Marble Wash, Coyote Wash, and Mariano Wash, flow toward the more permanent McElmo Creek in the northern portion of the quadrangle. The terrain is marked by the presence of several Drill Holes and a Well, indicating subsurface exploration and resource management within the reservation boundaries. Despite the arid character suggested by these dry washes, small water sources are documented at Spring and Springs, which likely served as vital points for livestock or local wildlife in this remote corner of Montezuma County during the late 1970s.
