The United States Air Force Academy occupies the northeastern reaches of this landscape, its military grounds marked by landmarks like the Heliport Hospital and a complex network of campus roads including Academy Drive. To the west, the Rampart Range rises sharply, dominated by the massive Rampart Reservoir and protected within the Pike National Forest. This 1980s-era revision highlights the interface between the high-altitude wilderness and the burgeoning edge of Colorado Springs, where the famous Garden of the Gods meets the base of the mountains. Along the southern corridor, the settlements of Cascade and Chipita Park line the path of Fountain Creek, served locally by the Ute Pass School. The terrain is deeply incised by canyons, notably Queens Canyon and Williams Canyon Road, illustrating the complex drainage systems that feed into the local water infrastructure at Northfield Reservoir.
