1998 Map of El Capitan

USGS Topo · Published 2002

About this map

The Bitterroot National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest converge at the Idaho-Montana border, forming a landscape of alpine basins and high-elevation lakes. This area, largely contained within the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, is dominated by the prominent peak of El Capitan and the deep drainage of Capitan Creek. The topographic detail shows a network of remote lakes, from Big Grizzly Lake and Little Grizzly Lake in the south to the cluster of Lost Horse Lake and Hackney Lake further north.
