About this map

The eastern slopes of the Cricket Mountains dominate the western half of this Millard County landscape, descending toward a network of high-desert water management features. The tiny settlement of Neels sits at a rail and road junction on the eastern flats, serving as a focal point for the surrounding rangeland. Water is the defining resource here, evidenced by a series of engineered catchments including Headquarters Reservoir, West Neels Reservoir, and Neels Reservoir Number 2. These structures, along with AT T Road Reservoir, trace a history of efforts to capture seasonal runoff in an arid environment. The intermittent course of the Beaver River meanders through the eastern portion of the quadrangle, eventually reaching the Beaver River Reservoir. This modern topographic study illustrates the sparse but critical infrastructure required to support life and livestock in the Sevier Desert region.
