1999 Map of O'Leary Lake

USGS Topo · Published 2003

About this map

Voyageurs National Park dominates this borderland landscape, where the international boundary between Ontario and Minnesota cuts directly through the expansive waters of Namakan Lake. This 1999 survey, based on 1960s topography, illustrates a wilderness geography defined by intricate shorelines and numerous named islands such as Pat Smith Island, My Island, and Your Island. The southern portion of the map is characterized by a dense network of smaller interior water bodies, including O'Leary Lake and Little Trout Lake, connected by portages and separated by the high ground of the St. Louis County border. Transportation is limited to the water and a single Winter Trail leading north toward Salo Lake. Scattered campsites along the Blind Pig Channel and Hammer Bay indicate the area's role as a protected recreational corridor within the national park system.
