The international border between the Canada United States of America marks the northern edge of this high-plains landscape. This topography is defined by the significant hydraulic infrastructure of the Saint Mary Canal, which skirts the base of several rising hills. Water management is a primary feature of the region, as the canal system interacts with natural drainages like Willow Creek and Cow Creek. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the North Fork Milk River meanders through wide valleys below Pikuni Flat, where the terrain begins to climb significantly. Local navigation is largely restricted to primitive routes and historical trails, including Whiskey Gap Rd and Mcgovern Trl, reflecting the sparse settlement pattern of this borderland area where topographic relief and water resources dictate movement and land use.
