Ochoco National Forest and the Mill Creek Wilderness define this high-elevation landscape in the Ochoco Mountains. The topography is dominated by prominent volcanic and geological features, most notably the namesake Steins Pillar and the heights of Wildcat Mtn. A complex network of drainages, including West Fork Mill Creek and Jim Elliott Creek, flow through the steep terrain, supported by numerous named water sources like Jesse Spring and Hawthorne Spring.
