The Taylor River flows through the northern reaches of this high-elevation landscape, where the peaks and drainages of the Gunnison National Forest dominate the terrain. Surveyed in the mid-1960s, this area is characterized by an intricate network of pack trails and steep gulches, including the prominent Fossil Ridge that cuts across the southeastern quadrant. The presence of numerous prospects and an individual prospect near Alder Creek indicates a history of mineral exploration in the vicinity of Comanche Gulch.
