East Fork Buttes and the namesake Dry Creek Butte rise above a landscape defined by the drainage of the East Fork Little Powder River and its tributaries. This 1982 edition reflects the rangeland character of Powder River County, where the economy is clearly oriented toward livestock and local industry. Evidence of this is seen in the presence of a Rodeo Ground and several Landing Strips situated among the draws. The water supply is a critical feature of the terrain, with numerous Flowing Wells, Springs, and named drainages like Harry Creek, Flat Creek, and Rough Creek providing essential resources. Numerous Drill Holes scattered across the township lines indicate subsurface exploration common in this part of Montana during the late twentieth century.
