Elkhorn Mountains terrain dominates this 2023 survey of the high country along the border of Baker and Grant counties. The landscape is defined by the high point of Mt Ireland, where the Mt Ireland Lookout Trl provides access to the summit. Historical mining activity is centered near the Cable Cove area in the northeast corner of the quadrangle, while several subalpine meadows and small lakes, such as Baldy Lake and Downie Lake, indicate a high-elevation ecosystem. Much of the northern terrain is protected within the North Fork John Day Wilderness, situated inside the larger Whitman National Forest. The map details a network of specialized paths including the Silver Creek Snowmobile Trl and the Baldy Creek Trl, reflecting the area's modern use for backcountry recreation and forestry management.
