Kootenai National Forest dominates this mountain landscape, which was revised by the Forest Service just before the turn of the millennium. The terrain is defined by high peaks and high-elevation basins, including Davis Peak and Border Peak. Settlement is sparse, represented by Jefferson Meadows and the open McGinnis Meadows to the north. These meadowlands suggest early grazing or homesteading footprints in an otherwise densely forested drainage system. The waterway network is complex, featuring the winding Mantrap Fork and Fishtrap Creek, which feed into Upper Fishtrap Lake. Traces of earlier resource extraction are visible at the Sales Prospect near Whitney Creek, while the western edge of the map preserves the primitive character of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness.
