Dog Creek Detention Reservoir and a sophisticated network of water management features dominate this portion of the Montana prairie in the mid-1980s. The landscape is defined by the strategic containment of seasonal flows through many earthen works, including the Bomber Detention Diversion Dam and the Pearson Detention Dam. These structures served the vital ranching interests of Valley County, creating essential water sources like Salty Glen Reservoir, Snow Blind Reservoir, and Lori Detention Reservoir.
