Sosa Peak rises as a prominent landmark in this Brewster County landscape, captured during a 1970s topographic survey and published in the early 1990s. The arid terrain is defined by the drainage patterns of Maravillas Creek, which flows across the quadrangle alongside the deep carvings of Big Dark Canyon and Little Dark Canyon. Human presence in this environment is sparse and functional, centered on water management and transit. Scattered Tank sites, a Well, and a Windmill illustrate the vital infrastructure required for ranching or survival in the high desert. Dove Mountain Road provides the primary traverse through the area, linking these isolated water points across a landscape of dramatic elevation changes and dry washes.
