About this map

The Continental Divide defines the high-altitude boundary between Lemhi and Beaverhead Counties in this 1990s revision of the Beaverhead Mountains. This landscape is characterized by a high concentration of alpine basins and named summits, including the prominent Homer Youngs Peak and Ajax Peak. The presence of the Stag-a-melt Mine near the northern edge of the quadrangle points to the region's mining history, situated amongst a network of high-elevation water bodies like the Stag-a-melt Lakes and Lena Lake. Mapping of the Beaverhead National Forest and Salmon National Forest highlights the intersection of state and federal land management along the Montana-Idaho border, where the Scenic Trail winds through the terrain south of Sacajawea Peaks.
