The C J Strike Dam and its adjacent Powerplant dominate this riverine landscape at the confluence of the Snake River and Bruneau River. This survey, compiled from 1946 data and updated in the 1970s, documents the creation of the C J Strike Reservoir, which flooded the canyon floors to a normal pool elevation of 2455 feet. The boundary between Elmore and Owyhee counties follows the original river channel, now submerged beneath the reservoir's waters. Away from the engineered shoreline, the high desert terrain preserves evidence of western migration routes, specifically the Emigrant Trail cutting across the sagebrush flats and coulees. Water management is a central theme of the landscape, seen in the transition from natural drainage like Canyon Creek to agricultural infrastructure, including an Artesian Well and various irrigation ditches serving the southern reaches near Little Valley.
